Course Description

This course equips students with the knowledge and tools needed to evaluate personal and business risk exposure and recommend appropriate insurance solutions. Students will learn how to conduct an insurance needs analysis for clients and evaluate insurance contracts for life, disability, long-term care, and health insurance.

By the end of the course, students will be prepared to identify risk exposures, compare policy options, and integrate risk management strategies into a broader financial planning framework.

Learner Outcomes

  1. Describe the basic concepts of risk as they relate to insurance planning, the regulatory and market environment of the insurance industry, and the legal principles related to insurance.
  2. Recognize the critical planning elements related to life, disability, health, and long-term care insurance and annuity products.
  3. Identify appropriate insurance coverages for property, automobile, liability, and business insurance products.

Prerequisites

Recommended: Completion of FPCC 435 Financial Planning Fundamentals with a 'C' or better. This course can be taken concurrently with FPCC 435.

A working knowledge of introductory finance and basic accounting principles is strongly recommended for success in this program. Students should be comfortable with concepts such as the Time Value of Money, financial statements, and foundational accounting terminology.
